If I look at other artists that I like that they have created in inspiration for my own work how do I keep from copying their work. Because it’s like when I do something it ends up looking similar to another persons work and I am in no way trying to. I don’t want someone getting angry or thinking that I’m stealing their ideas and their work.
What do you do and other people? How would you go about this?
Thanks!
you have some great ideas here, and here are mine:
take a handful of change and throw it down (like you are rolling dice)- use that as a guidline for the composition.
I guess that would be more for abstract.
Look through any random piles of scraps of paper- magazines you didn’t toss, etc. you might find something you saved because it gave you an idea. Start an inspiration notebook, box, folder, whatever. fill it with things that have attracted your attention or things you resist putting into a trashcan.
when getting into the creative mode, instead of starting with a picture, start with a feeling or a sensation that you want to convey- such as how you feel at a friday night carnival- what are the images, the colors, the mood etc.
how about a lazy winter day. how would you portray cold, still, and quiet.
sorry, that’s all i’ve got for now.

a creative idea could be to copy a very well known old piece of art, changing a portion of it and making it your own.

get a blank piece of paper. and draw whatever comes to your head. if that doesn’t work draw a random line without any thought of what it will be and turn it into something amazing

Go outdoors, into the real,
and sketch and doodle what you feel,
A farm, A tree, A cup of coffee,
Anything you find laying on the ground,
can be drawn through you eyes only,
from the tip of the sky to deep waters sound,
use you creative eyes to explore,
and when you done, draw even more,

You should try pushing your work further, like when your nearly finished try something totally different on the work. maybe just try and get out of your comfort zone and try different techniques. Maybe you could look at how they achieved a certain idea in their work was it through colour, texture, line? You need to experiment with your work and constantly push it in order to achieve your own language

i would get ideas but change about 90% of whatever i liked about the other artwork, i also sometimes meditate to clear my head and step outside and let the world overpower me, listen to the sounds of cars, birds or the wind, especially when it is raining outside.
