How do I write a song with little inspiration?

Everyone always says inspiration is needed to write a good song, but im 13, my life is pretty boring and i cant think of a single thing to write about. no interesting breakups, no big emotions. How do people write songs when they don’t have inspiration, because I don’t know where to begin.

get silly and write a song about whatever is in your head at the moment. it doesn’t have to be the greatest song ever written, just ease up on yourself enough to get the juices flowing. write a song about how boring your life is, how you’re free from breakups and traumatic emotions. write a song about how you don’t know how to write a song. get uncensored and go!

  2. If your life now is boring, then try writing about the stuff that you would want to happen to your life that could make it more interesting.

  4. If you don’t have inspiration, you’re generally SOL. You could try some creative exorcises though. Most likely you have plenty to write about and just don’t realize it.

EVERYBODY in pop culture writes about break ups and those ‘big emotions’ though, and frankly, it’s pretty boring and same-y, you know?

I suggest you go read some good poetry and get a better idea of the things that are really good subjects for poetry (most good, moving songs that stay with you are poetry to a good beat and melody). Like your dog, or Blades of Grass, or strangers in the park, dead mice, confusion, etc.

  5. try some new things. also if you are thirteen probably you have some feelings about girls (or boys) so you could write about a crush, just try not to make it sound stupid. also art forms such as writing and visual arts are shown to have a better outcome with strong emotions (i am not joking, i saw a study about this) usually depression.

  6. Here’s a story I’ve shared with others that may help you.

When Smokey Robinson met Berry Gordy for the first time (before they created Motown) he gave Gordy a bunch of songs he had written for feedback. Gordy went through them all and told him his lyrics were all over the place, they had no focus.

"A song should tell a story," he told him. "Make each song a single story."

Smokey took the advice seriously and went on to become one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

You don’t need to live a story to come up with one. The best observers make the best writers. Find something around you that is interesting and when you write about it remember that it is fiction and you can make it go in whatever direction you want.
