How do you find your inspiration to write a story?

I’m trying to write a story. Keyword: trying. I never finish it, and it’s getting so frustrating! If you’ve written a story/book, where did you find your inspiration? What helped you finish it? Thank you!

When I write, my inspiration comes from trees. If you just stare at tree, absorb the details of it, things just start to come to you. Of course, if I were a character in a book, that author would describe me as strange, freaky, and over all completely batshit….so. Other ways I get my inspiration are just from random objects. I one time got my inspiration from a crow bar. Weird. But alot of times I get inspired by other authors. Or poetry. Really, inspiration is just a random things that jumps on you like a cat with rabies. You never really know it’s going to happen, and when it does, it from the strangest things.

hope this helped?

  1. i listen to music and look at art,
This gives me inspiration, but i think music motivates me more. Especially if the music sets the right mood of what your writing.

  4. Having a purpose for my writing helps me to finish. It could be because I’m writing it for someone else, like a play I wrote specifically for an amateur dramatics society I know, so I finished it because I didn’t want to let them down, and I got my story from wikipeadiaing the local area of the group, picking a historical event, (some riots in my case), and I got a sweet story from that. Other stuff I’ve written comes from traumatic stuff happening to me, you know, you get your heart broken, you write a poem, or songs, or a script, or all 3 in my case.
So I think you need to be writing your story for a reason, even if that reason is just wanting to prove to yourself that you can finish. Remember, if you can’t finish, you’re not a writer.
