How do you get internet on a Dell inspiration 4000 laptop?

My gf gave me her old laptop which is a Dell inspiration 4000 laptop cuz she got a new one. I've been trying to figure how how to get internet on it. I don't think it has wireless. I plug an Ethernet cord into but no matter what i do. I can only figure out dial up, but I don't have dial up in my house and dial up is way to slow for my likings.
The Dell Inspiron 4000 is a 2000-2001 laptops it is too old and DOES NOT HAVE integrated wireless card it does have a PCMCIA slot you can buy a PCMCIA Wireless card and get internet that way as for helping not much i can do i never worked on DELLs so i dont know if it is the eaternet card or the laptop itself try getting a WIreless card compatible for Windows 98/ME/2000 and it HAS to be a PCMCIA Slot card and NOT a ExpressCard Slot card. if doing htis stil does not help feel free to contact me
