What is the motivation for someone to kiss a corpse in a casket?

What is the motivation for someone to kiss a corpse in a casket? What does that kiss symbolize.

I don’t know but it freaks the crap out of me. Both my grampas died in the past year and everybody was kissing them and touching theirs hands and even encouraged me to hold the ones hand. I don’t think so.

I was having panic attacks just being in the same room.

This depends on each person giving and their own reasoning.
